Moerdijk is a port village of 1,150 inhabitants in the south of the country, ideally located between the gigantic ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp in Belgium. It sits exactly where the Dutch government has chosen to build an area designed to receive electricity from offshore wind farms and make the country's port industry, one of the densest in Europe, more sustainable. The village, which has existed since the Middle Ages, could pay the price and be wiped off the map.
